3-D Is Coming

The new version of Beauty and the Beast will debut in theaters on Valentine’s Day 2010.

“Around 56 percent of G-Force’s gross came from 3D presentations, which accounted for 1,604 or 43 percent of the total number of sites. That was a slightly greater 3D share than Up and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs had in their debuts.  According to distributor Walt Disney Pictures’ exit polling, 75 percent of the audience was parents and their children, while 52 percent was female.”

VARIETY:  Hollywood has essentially rolled out the red carpet for exhibitors around the world to get them to embrace 3-D. At Comic-Con on Thursday studios took the campaign to the masses.

Animation greats Hayao Miyazaki and John Lasseter and directors Robert Zemeckis and Tim Burton will take part in their first ever Comic-Con at the San Diego Convention Center July 23-24.

Dreamworks will be releasing Monsters vs Aliens on Blu-ray Disc and DVD without 3D despite approximately 58% of box office ticket sales coming from 3D screenings. The reasons are purely technical. It cannot be done… yet.

Vertigo Films is producing what it claims will be the U.K.’s first 3-D horror pic, “Elfie Hopkins and the Gammons.”

With offices in California, Slovenia and Israel, Xpand was the official 3-D digital system provider at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The Xpand technology is used on more than 800 3-D screens worldwide.
