More info is emerging on “The Great Powerful,” the Wizard of Oz prequel that’s being developed at Disney. The project is aiming to shoot in 3-D, with the idea that plenty of Oz set-pieces could benefit from the z-axis treatment, just as they did in “Alice.”

The International 3D Society was created by Jon Landau, Jim Chabin, and Jeffrey Katzenberg, all of whom have significant commercial interest in the 3D industry. Like anyone who devotes a lot of time to a specific industry, they want to award themselves.
The technical awards ceremony will be held on October 5 at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood.
