More info is emerging on “The Great Powerful,” the Wizard of Oz prequel that’s being developed at Disney. The project is aiming to shoot in 3-D, with the idea that plenty of Oz set-pieces could benefit from the z-axis treatment, just as they did in “Alice.”

Hollywood To Host First "3D Technology Awards" →
The International 3D Society was created by Jon Landau, Jim Chabin, and Jeffrey Katzenberg, all of whom have significant commercial interest in the 3D industry. Like anyone who devotes a lot of time to a specific industry, they want to award themselves.  The technical awards ceremony will be held on October 5 at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood.

Odeon cinema group has refused to show Disney’s latest 3D movie, Alice in Wonderland, at its theatres in Ireland, Italy and the UK, because the film will be out on DVD soon. Odeon objects to Walt Disney’s decision to release the film on DVD just 12 weeks after it is first shown in theatres. The usual period between cinema and DVD release is 17 weeks.
