3-D Is Coming

Transformers 3 cinematographer Vince Pace – who was also the director of photography on the Los Angeles unit of Avatar – spoke to reporters at a press conference this week and revealed that Michael Bay’s new movie with giant robots wrecking havoc is being shot in AND converted to 3D in post-production.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be release on May 20th 2011. 

Despite the fact that MIB 3-D is still awaiting a script, Sony will look to fast-track the film for a summer 2011 release, afterSpider-Man 4 was cancelled.

More info is emerging on “The Great Powerful,” the Wizard of Oz prequel that’s being developed at Disney. The project is aiming to shoot in 3-D, with the idea that plenty of Oz set-pieces could benefit from the z-axis treatment, just as they did in “Alice.” 

The International 3D Society was created by Jon Landau, Jim Chabin, and Jeffrey Katzenberg, all of whom have significant commercial interest in the 3D industry. Like anyone who devotes a lot of time to a specific industry, they want to award themselves. 

The technical awards ceremony will be held on October 5 at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood.

RE4 was shot with the niftiest 3-D technology on the planet (filmed with the James Cameron/Vincent Pace Fusion Camera system) — which means it will not be the chintzy “conversion process 3-D” that you recently suffered through on Clash of the Titans.
